Nestled on the western shores of Scotland, Oban is a charming village that instantly captured my heart with its stunning coastlines and serene, uncrowded streets.
Often hailed as Scotland’s best-kept secret, Oban offers a mild climate, with the ideal time to visit being from late spring to early autumn when the days are longer and the landscapes are lush.
Be sure to pack layers and a good waterproof jacket, as the weather can be unpredictable.
My journey from Edinburgh to Oban was filled with excitement, spurred on by locals who assured me, “Oban is magical — you’ll love it.”
And they were right. Strolling through Oban Harbour, I was enchanted by the sounds of bagpipes and the mouthwatering aroma of fish and chips, all set against breathtaking bay views framed by mountainous islands.
Whisky enthusiasts must visit the historic Oban Distillery, founded in 1794, while seafood lovers should not miss the Oban Seafood Hut and Waterfront Fishouse Restaurant.
For a day of adventure, consider island hopping to Lismore, Kerrera, Mull, and Iona, or exploring the lush Scottish Highlands on horseback.
After a day of exploration, unwind with a Scottish beer at the Oban Inn or The Corryvreckan. Oban’s coastal charm, relaxed pace, and vibrant Scottish culture make it a destination you won’t want to miss.
