by Jo Huffhines Luxuy Travel Advisor
Paris is not merely a destination; it is a feeling. It is the golden hour hitting the limestone facades of the Marais, the scent of pain au chocolat mingling with expensive perfume in the 1st arrondissement, and the hushed reverence of a private museum tour.
As a luxury travel advisor, I don’t just send my clients to Paris—I help them inhabit it. Over years of scouting, tasting, and staying in the city’s finest establishments, I have curated a black book of addresses that separates the "tourist traps" from the truly transcendental.
Whether you are planning a honeymoon, a solo retreat, or a fashion week escape, allow me to guide you through the Paris I know and love.
Where to Stay: The Art of Parisian Hospitality
The right hotel is the anchor of your experience. In Paris, the choice is often between the Grand Dames (Palace hotels) and the intimate, design-forward boutiques. Here are the two I am currently recommending to my most discerning clients.
The Palace Experience: Cheval Blanc Paris
- The Vibe: Modern hyper-luxury. It is the crown jewel of LVMH, located right on the Seine.
- Why I Love It: The Dior Spa is, quite simply, life-changing. But the real secret is the view from the balconies—you feel as if you are floating above the Pont Neuf.
- Advisor Tip: Ask me to book you a table at Plénitude (their 3-Michelin-star restaurant) well before you even book your flight. It is essential.
The Boutique Gem: Château Voltaire
- The Vibe: Discreet, chic, and incredibly "fashion insider." Located in the 1st arrondissement, it feels like staying at the home of a wealthy, tasteful friend.
- Why I Love It: It captures the zeitgeist of the new Paris. The velvet interiors and the moody, subterranean spa are perfect for decomposing after a day of shopping.
- Advisor Tip: Book the Suite Voltaire for its private garden terrace—a rarity in central Paris.
Where to Eat: From Michelin Stars to Market Stalls
Dining in Paris should be a mix of high gastronomy and soulful, casual bites.
For The "Event" Dinner: Plénitude or Guy Savoy
If you want the theatrics of French service, these are the pinnacles. However, for 2025/2026, I am steering clients toward Plénitude for Arnaud Donckele’s sauce-focused alchemy, or Le Tout-Paris for a vibrant brasserie atmosphere with skyline views.
The "In-the-Know" Lunch: Les Enfants du Marché
Located inside the Marché des Enfants Rouges (the oldest covered market in Paris), this is where the cool crowd eats.
The Experience: You sit on high stools at a counter, surrounded by market stalls, eating seafood and drinking natural wine that rivals the best restaurants in the city. No reservations—arrive early (noon sharp).
The Sexy Night Out: Substance
The energy is electric, the food is inventive, and it feels thoroughly modern. "Forget the cliché of the sleepy, silent French dining room. When my clients crave energy, modernity, and a touch of glamour, I send them to Substance in the 16th arrondissement. This is where the new Parisian elite come to play. With its moody, low-lit aesthetic and a champagne map that is arguably the most exciting in the city (over 180 rare producers), the atmosphere here is intoxicating. It is the perfect intersection of Michelin-starred precision and the electric buzz of a Saturday night. You don't just come here to eat; you come here to be part of the scene."
Where to Shop: Vintage Gold & Design Icons
Forget the Champs-Élysées. To shop like a Parisian, you must hunt.
Luxury Vintage: Thanx God I’m a V.I.P.
Located near République, this is not a dusty thrift store. It is a curated temple of fashion.
- What to Buy: Pristine vintage Yves Saint Laurent blazers, 1980s Céline skirts, and Burberry trenches. The racks are color-coded and the condition is impeccable.
The Ultimate Flea Market: Marché aux Puces de Saint-Ouen
It is the largest antique market in the world, and it can be overwhelming.
- Advisor Strategy: Skip the trinket stalls and head straight to Marché Paul Bert Serpette for high-end mid-century furniture, vintage Chanel jewelry, and Louis Vuitton trunks.
- Google Keyword Tip: Best vintage shopping Paris 2025
The Department Store Revamped: La Samaritaine
Reopened after years of renovation, this Art Nouveau masterpiece is worth a visit for the architecture alone. It offers a far more curated, airy shopping experience than the crowded Galeries Lafayette.
What to See & Do: Beyond the Eiffel Tower
A Morning at Musée Yves Saint Laurent
Located in the designer's former haute couture house, this museum is intimate and stunning. You can see his actual studio, preserved exactly as he left it. It is a pilgrimage for fashion lovers.
Picnic at Place des Vosges
Grab a baguette from a local boulangerie, cheese from Fromagerie Laurent Dubois, and sit in the grass at Place des Vosges in the Marais. It is the most symmetrical, aesthetically pleasing square in Paris.
The Secret Beneath the City: Crypte Archéologique de l'Île de la Cité
While millions of tourists snap photos of Notre Dame above ground, a mere fraction know what lies beneath their feet. Excavated in the 1970s, this archaeological crypt offers a hauntingly beautiful descent into the ancient Roman city of Lutetia.
- The Experience: It is cool, quiet, and atmospheric. You walk among the actual quay walls of the ancient port, a Gallo-Roman bathhouse, and medieval foundations.
- Why It’s Exclusive: It is estimated that only around 400 people visit this site daily—a stark contrast to the crowds nearby. It feels like a private viewing of history, untouched and silent.
A Night of Silence: Sleep Inside the Sacré-Cœur
For a completely different kind of exclusivity—one defined by silence rather than thread count—I recommend the Night of Adoration at the Sacré-Cœur Basilica in Montmartre.
- The Experience: Since 1885, a continuous chain of prayer has been maintained here, day and night. Unbeknownst to most, you can stay overnight in simple guest quarters connected to the basilica by a private covered corridor.
- The Condition: This is not a hotel; it is a pilgrimage. In exchange for a modest contribution (starting at just €15 for a dorm or up to €45 for a private room), you commit to one hour of silence or prayer inside the basilica between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
- Why It’s Special: Whether you are a believer or simply seeking a moment of profound peace, standing beneath that iconic dome at 3 a.m., with the rest of Paris asleep below you, is a surreal, soul-stirring experience that money truly cannot buy. Breakfast is included, but the memory of the silence is the real souvenir.
Client Love: What Travelers Are Saying
"I thought I knew Paris, but this trip was on a different level. The private tour of the flea market you arranged saved us hours of wandering, and that table at Substance? The highlight of our year. Thank you for the magic." — Sarah & James, New York
"Every recommendation was spot on. I never would have found Château Voltaire on my own—it was exactly the vibe I wanted. I felt less like a tourist and more like a local." — Elena M., Los Angeles
